Federal Agents Investigate Deaths of Six People in Texas Rail Yard as Potential Human Smuggling
Federal agents are investigating the deaths of at least six individuals, believed to be immigrants, found inside a shipping container at a Union Pacific rail yard near the Texas-Mexico border in Laredo. The incident is being treated as a potential human smuggling event. A seventh body was discovered near railroad tracks outside San Antonio, which may be connected to the case. The deceased are suspected to have died from heatstroke, with autopsies being conducted by Dr. Corinne Stern, the Webb County medical examiner. Identification cards and cellphones found at the scene suggest the victims may be from Mexico and Honduras. The investigation is being led by Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from local law enforcement agencies.
