Trump Administration Launches 'Operation No Doze' to Combat COVID-Era Loan Fraud

The Trump administration has initiated a significant crackdown on fraud related to federal small business loan programs from the COVID-19 era, dubbed 'Operation No Doze.' Starting Tuesday, the Small Business Administration (SBA) will dispatch demand letters to individuals in Kansas and Missouri suspected of defrauding pandemic-era Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and Economic Injury Disaster (EID) loans. This initiative, led by the SBA inspector general’s office, will subsequently expand nationwide. The letters will give recipients 30 days to return the funds or face legal action. According to SBA head Kelly Loeffler, approximately $200 billion of the $1.2 trillion distributed through PPP and EID loans during the pandemic was stolen. The administration's anti-fraud task force, led by Vice President JD Vance, has already identified nearly $230 billion in fraud and prevented about $56 billion in fraudulent payments across various federal programs, including Medicaid and supplemental nutrition assistance.
