Groundswell Fund Adjusts Strategy Amid Challenges to Bodily Autonomy Rights
Groundswell Fund, a key supporter of reproductive and gender justice movements, is shifting its strategy in response to the systemic rollback of rights such as those previously protected under Roe v. Wade. The fund, which has distributed over $200 million in grants, is now focusing on organizations in battleground states in the South, Southwest, and Midwest. This strategic shift comes as philanthropic funding for bodily autonomy, including reproductive rights and LGBTQ issues, has decreased. Groundswell is consolidating its funds and moving away from operating programs to become a 'facilitative convener,' emphasizing community-owned systems of care and power.
