Union Minister Highlights PM SVANidhi Scheme's Impact on Street Vendors' Financial Security
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, emphasized the significant impact of the PM SVANidhi Scheme, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020. The scheme aims to empower street vendors by providing collateral-free loans, thereby enhancing their financial security and social recognition. Over the past six years, more than 75.5 lakh street vendors have benefited from the scheme, with over 1.12 crore loans sanctioned and Rs 17,800 crore disbursed nationwide. The initiative has been pivotal in integrating street vendors into the formal banking system, promoting financial inclusion and self-reliance. In the North-Eastern region alone, over 2.59 lakh loans have been distributed, with financial assistance exceeding Rs 430 crore. In Tripura, more than 9,300 loans have been sanctioned, amounting to nearly Rs 15 crore disbursed to beneficiaries.
