Epidemiologist Michael Osterholm Rallies Philanthropy Against Anti-Vaccine Policies at HHS
Dr. Michael Osterholm, a prominent epidemiologist, is mobilizing philanthropic support to counteract potential anti-vaccine policies under the leadership of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Osterholm, who has advised multiple U.S. administrations, is concerned about the implications of Kennedy's stance against government vaccine mandates. In response, Osterholm's Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) is launching initiatives to provide science-based information on vaccine safety and efficacy. These efforts are supported by philanthropic contributions, including a $240,000 grant from Christy Walton's Alumbra collective and $3.2 million from the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). CIDRAP aims to fill gaps left by federal policy changes, focusing on public health alerts and vaccine research.
