White House Press Secretary's Family Ties Complicate Immigration Stance Amid ICE Detention
Bruna Ferreira, the mother of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's nephew, has criticized Leavitt from ICE custody, accusing her of misrepresenting her as an absentee parent. Ferreira, a Brazilian national, was detained by ICE agents in Massachusetts while on her way to pick up her son from school. She claims that Leavitt, who is closely associated with President Trump's immigration policies, was once like a sister to her. The White House has attempted to distance Leavitt from Ferreira, with officials claiming that Leavitt has not been in contact with Ferreira for years. However, Ferreira disputes this narrative, stating that she was recently seen with Leavitt's family at a football game. Ferreira, who has lived in the U.S. since she was six and is protected under DACA, is in the process of obtaining a green card. Her attorney argues that Ferreira was unfairly targeted and that her detention was influenced by her past relationship with Leavitt's brother.
