Judge Orders Release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from ICE Custody Amid Legal Dispute
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador in March, has been ordered released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis. The judge ruled that the Trump administration detained him 'without lawful authority' as there was no valid removal order against him. Abrego Garcia, who is married to an American citizen and has lived in Maryland for years, was brought back to the U.S. to face criminal charges. His attorney, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, confirmed his release, allowing him to temporarily reunite with his family. The Department of Homeland Security criticized the ruling, labeling it as 'naked judicial activism' and plans to appeal the decision. The case has drawn attention due to allegations that Abrego Garcia was involved with the MS-13 gang, which he denies.
