Russian Drone Crash in Romania Sparks NATO Security Concerns
A Russian drone, part of an overnight attack on Ukraine, crashed into an apartment building in Galati, Romania, injuring two people. This incident marks the first time injuries have occurred from drone fragments in Romania, a NATO member. Romanian President Nicusor Dan convened the country's top defense body to address what he described as the worst incident on national territory since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Romanian military responded by scrambling fighter jets and a helicopter, and alert messages were sent to residents. The drone's incursion has been labeled a serious violation of international law by Romania's Foreign Ministry, prompting calls for faster transfer of anti-drone capabilities from NATO.
