Polish Starlink Ground Station Fire Sparks Sabotage Investigation, Russian Involvement Suspected
A fire recently broke out at a Starlink ground station in Wola Krobowska, Poland, which is owned by the state telecommunications company Exatel. The incident damaged the power plant and generator, leading to a disruption of internet connectivity for various organizations, including the Ukrainian military. Polish authorities, specifically Przemysław Nowak, a spokesman for the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office, have stated there is 'reasonable suspicion' that Russian intelligence services are behind the fire. Krzysztof Gawkowski, Poland’s deputy prime minister and digital affairs minister, echoed these suspicions, suggesting the aim was to disrupt Starlink internet traffic and communications across Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries. This event occurred amidst increasing warnings from Polish officials about intensifying Russian hybrid attacks, including sabotage, against Poland and NATO.
