Daycare Cited for Multiple Violations Following Death of Child Left on Bus in Memphis
Kid University, a daycare in Cordova, Tennessee, has been found noncompliant with five transportation policies following the death of six-year-old Winter Jones. The non-verbal child, who had autism, was left on a hot bus for hours in the daycare's parking lot last week and later died. A 'Fatality Visit' conducted by the Tennessee Department of Human Services revealed that the daycare's vehicle lacked a monitoring device, documentation for required transportation training was unavailable, vehicle inspection procedures were not followed after unloading children, the transportation log was inaccurately completed, and the driver and reviewers admitted to not conducting a walk-through to confirm all children were off the bus. Winter Jones's father stated that the daycare was supposed to drop her off at Macon Hall Elementary School, but she remained on the bus when it returned to Kid University.
