Dorot Foundation Closure Causes Confusion for New York Nonprofit Dorot
The Dorot Foundation, a Boston-based grantmaker focused on social justice, announced its plans to close by 2034, leading to confusion with the New York-based nonprofit Dorot. The latter, which focuses on combating loneliness among older adults through cross-generational programs, has been mistakenly thought to be shutting down. This confusion has resulted in numerous inquiries from concerned clients, participants, and even potential funders. Mark Meridy, the executive director of the New York Dorot, clarified that their organization is financially strong and continuing its operations. Despite efforts to correct the misunderstanding, the nonprofit continues to receive calls from individuals and organizations under the false impression that it is closing.
