Taiwan's Coast Guard Vessels Equipped with Missiles to Counter China's Naval Threats
Taiwan has enhanced its coast guard capabilities by equipping its new vessels with anti-ship missiles, as demonstrated in a recent military drill. The Anping-class ship, Bali, led a joint exercise simulating a Chinese amphibious landing attack. This move is part of Taiwan's annual military exercises, which also included smaller missile boats, special forces, and drones. The exercise underscores Taiwan's strategy to integrate its coast guard with its main naval forces in the event of conflict. The Anping-class vessels, based on a naval corvette design, can be quickly converted from patrol to combat roles, capable of carrying up to 16 Hsiung Feng missiles. This development comes amid growing concerns over China's gray-zone warfare tactics.
