Israel and Lebanon Test New Peace Framework Linking Withdrawal to Hezbollah Disarmament
Israel and Lebanon have initiated a pilot program under a new framework agreement that links Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon to the disarmament of Hezbollah. This agreement, reached under American auspices, marks the first direct political negotiations between the two countries in over 40 years. The framework aims to establish a permanent security arrangement by making Israeli withdrawal contingent on the removal of Hezbollah's weapons. Lebanese army troops have begun deploying in areas vacated by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), with the goal of reasserting Beirut's sovereignty and reducing Hezbollah's influence.
