The initiative, unveiled at a White House Rose Garden announcement alongside President Trump, is part of her 'Fostering the Future' program. This event marked a rare public appearance for the First Lady, who has maintained a lower profile during President Trump's second term. The scholarships are designed to help foster youth pursue higher education, launch careers, and achieve financial independence. The program involves Purdue University and Indiana University, which are joining a network of schools participating in the scholarship initiative. This effort builds on her previous work in foster care advocacy, which began after President Trump's first term, including launching scholarships in 2021 and pushing for an executive order signed last November to track child welfare data and end the 'orphan tax.'
