USS Gerald R. Ford Completes Historic 11-Month Deployment, Returns to Norfolk
The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, is set to return to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, after completing a record-breaking 11-month deployment. This marks the longest post-Vietnam deployment by a carrier, as confirmed by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle during a House Armed Services Committee hearing. The carrier, which began its deployment on June 24, 2025, operated in the Middle East in support of U.S. Central Command and participated in operations such as Operation Epic Fury against Iran. The deployment was not without challenges, including a non-combat fire in March that injured sailors and caused significant damage, as well as ongoing plumbing issues. Despite these setbacks, the carrier and its crew are being celebrated for their resilience and dedication.
