Artemis 2 Astronauts Reflect on Earth's Beauty from Space
Artemis 2 astronaut Christina Koch shared her reflections on viewing Earth from space during a call with International Space Station (ISS) counterparts. Koch, along with fellow astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Jeremy Hansen, recently completed a flyby of the moon. Koch described the profound experience of seeing Earth surrounded by the vastness of space, which emphasized the planet's beauty and the shared human experience. This perspective, known as the 'overview effect,' highlights the fragility and uniqueness of Earth. The Artemis 2 mission marks the first crewed mission beyond Earth orbit since 1972, and the astronauts are now on their way back to Earth, expected to splash down off the coast of San Diego.
