Montana Democrat's Senate Bid May Enhance GOP Opponent's Chances
Montana Democrat Alani Bankhead has decided to continue her campaign for the U.S. Senate, aiming to flip the seat of retiring Republican Senator Steve Daines. Despite calls from her party to withdraw and support independent candidate Seth Bodnar, Bankhead remains in the race. This decision could potentially benefit her Republican opponent, Kurt Alme, as it may split the Democratic and independent vote. Polls indicate that 17% of likely voters support Bodnar, 25% back Bankhead, and over 40% favor Alme. The Democratic leadership in Montana has defended Bankhead's decision, emphasizing the party's resilience and focus on local issues. Both Bankhead and Bodnar are campaigning on reducing living costs and addressing healthcare expenses, with Bankhead advocating for universal healthcare, a stance not widely supported in the GOP-dominated state.
