Journalists Call for White House Correspondents' Association to Defend Press Freedom at Rescheduled Dinner
Hundreds of former journalists and eight press freedom groups have urged the White House Correspondents' Association to take a stand against the Trump administration's attacks on the media during its rescheduled dinner. The event, initially cut short due to a security incident, will now take place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, D.C. The letter, organized by former ABC News correspondent Lisa Stark and producer Ian Cameron, highlights recent subpoenas issued by the Justice Department to New York Times journalists and threats by President Trump to revoke broadcasters' licenses. The letter calls for the association to publicly defend journalists and resist efforts to undermine the First Amendment. President Trump has confirmed his attendance at the dinner, which he views as a sign of resilience.
