Winter Storm Warning: Near Blizzard Conditions in Northeast and Appalachians
A significant winter storm is affecting parts of the Northeast and Appalachians, bringing 'near blizzard conditions' and up to nine inches of snow, as reported by the National Weather Service (NWS). Alerts have been issued across four states, with travel conditions rapidly deteriorating. In West Virginia, warnings are in effect for several counties, with heavy snow and wind gusts up to 55 mph. The NWS Charleston office issued alerts covering areas such as Upshur and Barbour counties. In Western Greenbrier County, additional snow and winds up to 60 mph are expected. Maryland's Garrett County is experiencing heavy snow and strong winds, while New Hampshire's Coastal Rockingham County faces snowbands that could bring 1 to 2 inches per hour. Massachusetts' Essex County is also under a warning, with snow expected throughout the day.
