United Nations Supports Critical Mineral Supply Chain Oversight to Promote Responsible Mining
The United Nations is actively involved in strengthening the oversight of critical mineral supply chains to align national frameworks with international standards. This initiative aims to address risks associated with crime, corruption, and weak accountability in the mining sector. The UN is also focused on improving mine safety, labor standards, and promoting responsible business conduct in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Additionally, the organization is exploring ways to recover valuable raw materials from electronic waste to reduce the need for new extraction. In countries like Zambia and Argentina, the UN is working to ensure that mining activities create new opportunities for workers, local businesses, and communities while protecting the environment.
