Senator Blackburn Seeks Senate Condemnation of Judge Ross for Misconduct
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) has called for the Senate to unanimously condemn Judge Eleanor Ross of the Northern District of Georgia following findings of judicial misconduct. A judicial panel reported that Judge Ross engaged in a two-year extramarital affair with an Atlanta police commander, which included inappropriate conduct in her chambers. Additionally, she attended a partisan political event and lied during the investigation. The committee reprimanded Ross and required her to write apology letters to her clerks, which she revised after media scrutiny. While Republican lawmakers have criticized Ross and some House members have introduced impeachment resolutions, Democrats have largely remained silent. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) opposed Blackburn's request, stating that the matter should be handled by the House Judiciary Committee, as the Senate's involvement could compromise its role as a jury in potential impeachment trials.
