New Oil and Gas Lease Sale Announced for Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

This decision follows two previous sales that failed to attract major oil companies and comes amid ongoing litigation aimed at preventing drilling in the region. The sale is part of a law passed by Congress requiring four lease sales over a decade. The coastal plain, considered sacred by the Indigenous Gwich'in, is a critical habitat for wildlife and is seen by conservationists as a national treasure that should remain undeveloped.
