Lawson Banks Douglas Passes Away, Leaves Legacy in Augusta Golf Community
Lawson Banks Douglas, a prominent figure in the Augusta golf community, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, surrounded by family. Born on September 29, 1949, in Augusta, Georgia, Douglas was deeply involved in the local golf scene from a young age, working alongside his parents at the Augusta Municipal Golf Course. He attended Carlisle Military Academy and graduated from Aquinas High School in Augusta. His career in golf took him to Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head and later to Bonnie Brae Country Club in Greenville, South Carolina, where he served as the head golf professional. Douglas eventually returned to Augusta to open Lawson's Golf Shop in Daniel Village. He was also a devoted member of the Augusta American Legion Post 205. Douglas is survived by his daughter, Catherine Douglas Hazlewood, and other family members. A graveside service is scheduled for February 7 at Westover Memorial Park, where attendees are encouraged to wear golfing attire in his honor.
