Tropical Storm Isaias Nears Hurricane Strength, Threatens Northern Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Isaias is nearing hurricane strength over the southern Gulf of Mexico, approximately 290 km northwest of Progreso, Mexico, and 745 km south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River. The storm is moving east-northeast at 15 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h and gusts up to 140 km/h. A Hurricane Warning is in effect from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to the Bay/Gulf County Line, Florida, while a Storm Surge Warning covers the area from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Steinhatchee River, Florida. Isaias is expected to strengthen into a hurricane and make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast late Friday or early Saturday.
