Sanctioned Russian Ship Lady Mariia Attacked by Drones in Mediterranean Sea
The Russian roll-on/roll-off cargo ship Lady Mariia, which is currently under U.S. and Ukrainian sanctions, was reportedly attacked by drones in the Mediterranean Sea. Andrii Klymenko, head of Ukraine’s Institute for Black Sea Strategic Studies, reported the incident, stating the vessel was en route to Syria. Footage of the attack, showing drones dropping munitions and a subsequent fire, was published by Klymenko and Russian opposition commentator Alexander Nevzorov. Nevzorov claimed the ship was hit 12 times and suggested the drones were launched by Ukrainian forces from Libyan territory, carrying Iranian weapons and armored vehicles intended for Russia. Klymenko also hinted at a Libyan origin for the drones. Ukrainian authorities have not officially commented on the attack, and details regarding the number of hits, drone origin, and cargo remain unconfirmed.
