Pakistan's Monsoon Rains Result in Over 100 Deaths, More Heavy Rain Forecasted
Pakistan has experienced severe monsoon rains since June 26, resulting in the deaths of 109 people, as reported by the National Disaster Management Authority. The majority of these fatalities were due to collapsing houses and roofs, particularly in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The government is reviewing flood preparedness measures and plans to issue warnings to communities along rivers to facilitate voluntary evacuations. Recent heavy rains have caused significant flooding in Lahore, leading to public criticism of the government's response to extreme weather conditions. Authorities are concerned about a potential repeat of the devastating 2022 floods, which submerged a third of the country and resulted in 1,737 deaths.
