Barrick Mining Evacuates Workers from Chilean Mine Amid Severe Winter Storms
Barrick Mining has successfully evacuated workers from its Barriales camp in northern Chile following severe winter storms. The evacuation was confirmed by the company's Chilean subsidiary, which stated that all workers were safely transferred and are in good health. The rescue efforts, initially hampered by poor weather, resumed once conditions improved. Chile's Economy and Mining Minister, Daniel Mas, also confirmed the evacuation. However, three workers remain at the nearby Potrerillos camp, where they have access to essential supplies. The storm, one of the worst in years, has resulted in over a dozen fatalities and isolated approximately 60,000 people. Many mining companies in the region had preemptively suspended operations due to the anticipated severe weather.
