SpaceX Faces Lawsuit Over Unpermitted Gas Turbines Near Memphis
SpaceX is operating 69 unpermitted gas turbines in DeSoto County, Mississippi, which are allegedly causing pollution and health issues for local residents. The turbines, used to power a data center, are running without the required Clean Air Act permits. The NAACP has filed a lawsuit, framing the issue as a civil rights violation, as the affected community is predominantly Black and already faces higher exposure to industrial pollution. SpaceX has acknowledged the lack of permits and plans to remove the turbines by July 2027, but this timeline means continued exposure to harmful pollutants for another 15 months.
