Invest 97L Brings Heavy Rain to Gulf, 50% Chance of Tropical Depression Formation
A tropical disturbance, designated as Invest 97L, has formed over the northern Gulf of Mexico, bringing heavy rainfall to the region. According to FOX Weather, the system has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical depression as it moves toward the Texas and Louisiana coasts. The disturbance originated from a cluster of thunderstorms influenced by a dip in the jet stream over the weekend. Currently, the system is trapped under a heat dome and high-pressure system, which is steering it westward. Hurricane hunters are scheduled to investigate the system early Monday morning to gather more data on its strength and organization. Regardless of its development, the system is expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Gulf Coast through Tuesday.
