Outside Groups Intensify Spending in Minnesota Senate Race Between Flanagan and Craig
The U.S. Senate primary race in Minnesota between Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan and Rep. Angie Craig has seen a significant influx of spending from outside groups. These groups are heavily investing in television ads and other campaign materials as the primary election approaches. Flanagan and Craig, both Democrats, are competing for the seat of retiring Sen. Tina Smith. The campaigns are legally prohibited from coordinating with these outside groups, but the groups have been spending millions to influence the outcome. Flanagan has received substantial support from the Democratic Lieutenant Governor's Association (DLGA) PAC, which has spent nearly $2.5 million on her behalf. Meanwhile, Craig has benefited from the North Star Dawn PAC, which has spent about $7 million supporting her campaign. Both candidates have criticized each other over the sources of their campaign funding, with Flanagan refusing corporate PAC money and Craig defending her acceptance of such funds.
