India's Development Projects in Sri Lanka Offer Alternative to Chinese Loans
India is expanding its development partnership with Sri Lanka, focusing on long-term investments in connectivity, energy security, and economic integration. This approach contrasts with China's infrastructure-centric model, as India offers grants and concessional loans with favorable terms. During a recent visit by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to Colombo, progress was reviewed on several flagship projects, including a $450-million reconstruction package for infrastructure damaged by Cyclone Ditwah. India has also operationalized two Indian rupee-denominated concessional credit lines to support railway modernization and livestock development in Sri Lanka.
