Summer Solstice 2026: Longest Day of the Year in New York
The astronomical start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, known as the summer solstice, will occur on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This marks the longest day of the year, with the Northern Hemisphere receiving the most sunlight hours and the most direct sunlight angle. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the solstice will begin at 10:42 p.m. EDT. Meteorological summer, however, began earlier on June 1 and will run through August 31. Cities across New York will experience varying daylight durations on June 21, with Watertown receiving the longest at 15 hours and 29 minutes, and New York City seeing 15 hours and 5 minutes of sunlight.
