Türkiye and Syria Sign Agreement to Open Cultural Centers, Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Türkiye and Syria have signed an agreement to establish cultural centers in each other's countries, marking a significant step in enhancing bilateral relations. The agreement, signed by Türkiye's ambassador to Damascus, Nuh Yılmaz, and Qutayba Kadish from the Syrian Foreign Ministry, aims to foster cultural cooperation through language education and cultural exchange initiatives. The Yunus Emre cultural centers, named after a 14th-century poet, will resume operations in Damascus and Aleppo, having been suspended since the Syrian conflict began in 2011. These centers will cater to the Turkish-speaking population in Syria, including ethnic Turkmen communities and Syrians who have lived in Türkiye. The initiative is expected to preserve and enhance language skills and promote shared cultural heritage through various projects in literature, photography, cinema, painting, and history.
