Romanian Military Destroys Russian Drones Near Strategic Black Sea Gas Project
Romanian military divers have destroyed two Russian-made drones found near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project in the Black Sea. The drones were discovered drifting in Romania's exclusive economic zone, approximately 90 nautical miles east of Constanța. The Neptun Deep project, jointly owned by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, is a significant energy initiative for the European Union, with production expected to begin in 2027. Romanian authorities contacted Ukraine to confirm the drones were not Ukrainian, and subsequently destroyed them due to the potential threat they posed. This incident follows a series of drone incursions into Romanian airspace, with over 30 violations reported since Russia began attacking Ukrainian Danube ports.
