Syrian Forces Arrest Palestinians in Damascus Amid Allegations of Regime Ties
Syrian security forces have conducted a series of arrests targeting Palestinians in Damascus, citing alleged connections to the Assad regime, the Islamic State, or involvement in recent violent demonstrations. According to Palestinian rights organizations and Arab media reports, at least 14 men were detained from various locations, including the Khan al-Shih and Jaramana camps, as well as the Rukn al-Din neighborhood and the town of al-Hameh. The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria reported that some detainees were subjected to beatings and electric shocks during interrogations. Despite the arrests, the Syrian Interior Ministry has not provided specific reasons or charges, leading to concerns among families about potential retribution. The arrests follow recent protests against the UAE's membership in the Abraham Accords, during which pro-Palestinian demonstrators vandalized the UAE embassy in Damascus.
