Chad Deploys 1,500 Troops to Haiti to Support UN Efforts Against Gang Violence
Chad has announced the deployment of 1,500 troops to Haiti as part of a United Nations-led security force aimed at combating gang violence in the Caribbean nation. This decision follows a request from the UN and involves two battalions of 750 troops each, with a contingent of 400 already on the ground. The deployment is part of the expanded Kenya-led multinational force, which now includes 5,500 troops with the authority to arrest suspected gang members. The mission addresses the severe gang control over large areas of Port-au-Prince and other regions, which has led to significant violence and instability.
