Dengue Cases Surge Globally: Prevention and Control Measures
Dengue, a viral infection transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, is now a global health concern, with half the world's population at risk. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 100–400 million infections occur annually, with 96 million symptomatic cases and over 12,000 deaths reported in 2024 alone. The disease is endemic in over 100 countries, with the Americas contributing significantly to the global burden. Factors such as climate change, urbanization, and increased human mobility have exacerbated the spread of dengue. Symptoms range from mild fever and rash to severe cases requiring hospitalization. WHO highlights the importance of early detection and vector control to mitigate the impact of dengue.
