Board of Peace Sets Deadline for Hamas Disarmament in Gaza
The Board of Peace, an initiative launched by President Trump, has set a deadline for Hamas to agree to a disarmament framework in Gaza by the end of the week. This international body, established to oversee a ceasefire in place for six months, demands that Hamas dismantle nearly all of its weapons and provide detailed maps of its tunnel network. If an agreement is reached, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops are expected to withdraw from most of Gaza, restrictions on essential goods would be lifted, and temporary housing would be provided for displaced residents. The proposal was delivered to Hamas by Nickolay Mladenov, a senior Board of Peace official. However, Hamas has accused Israel of not fulfilling its obligations, citing insufficient humanitarian aid and continued strikes. Talks are ongoing, with pressure from Arab and Turkish officials for Hamas to adopt a pragmatic approach.
