King Charles III has issued a statement through Buckingham Palace in response to allegations made in a forthcoming memoir by Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer. Spencer's book, titled 'Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,' claims that the monarch stated Diana would be forgotten 'soon enough' after her death in 1997. Spencer described this alleged remark as indicative of the monarch's 'pent-up contempt for Diana' and his dismay at the public's reaction to her passing. The Palace's response suggests that the 'pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and color memory in ways others do not recognize, even many years after such a loss.' The memoir also details other aspects of Diana's life, including her funeral arrangements and the participation of Princes William and Harry in the procession. Camilla Parker Bowles, now Queen Camilla, married Charles in 2005 following her divorce in 1995.
