King Felipe VI Reaffirms Commitment to Ceuta Amidst Political Disagreement on Royal Visit

King Felipe VI has reiterated his commitment to Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city, and plans to visit the region with Queen Letizia in the coming weeks. This announcement comes despite differing statements from government officials regarding the King's agenda and the timing of such a visit. President Pedro Sánchez had erroneously questioned the King's previous visits to Ceuta, while Minister Elma Saiz stated she was unaware of the King's desire to visit. Conversely, Minister Óscar Puente asserted that the government dictates the King's agenda, especially on politically sensitive matters. The Royal Household confirmed the visit, which was reportedly planned even before the recent migration crisis that saw approximately 80,000 people enter Ceuta. The King had previously contacted Ceuta's President Vivas, expressing support and emphasizing 'unity' for the city.
