Leidos Subsidiary to Design Australian Nuclear Submarine Dry Dock Under AUKUS Agreement
Leidos Gibbs and Cox, a U.S.-based company, has been selected to design a dry dock for Australia's future nuclear-powered submarines as part of the AUKUS agreement. This dry dock is essential for the maintenance and repair of the submarines that Australia will operate under AUKUS Pillar 1. The Australian Department of Defence announced that this project is a critical step in preparing for the arrival of the first Virginia-class submarine. The dry dock forms part of a broader investment in Western Australia's naval infrastructure, supporting the country's sovereign shipbuilding capabilities. The project is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs over the next two decades.
