Representative Nicole Malliotakis Honors Good Samaritan for Aiding Lightning Strike Victim
Representative Nicole Malliotakis has awarded a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to Stefanie Homan, a Staten Island resident, for her actions in assisting Thomas Fahmy, a congressional caseworker, after he was struck by lightning. The incident occurred on August 27 in Castleton Corners, New York, when Fahmy was returning to his car after a dental appointment. Home doorbell camera footage captured Fahmy collapsing on the pavement following loud bangs. Fahmy reported experiencing numbness, tingling, and pain in his feet and was scared of being struck again. Homan heard his calls for help and brought him into her home. Emergency operators advised Homan against giving Fahmy water or food. Fahmy spent 12 hours in the hospital but was discharged without injuries or burns, only needing to drink liquids. He returned to work within a week of the incident. The Republican politician praised Homan's actions as a display of local instinct to help those in need and spread kindness.
