President Trump and Rep. Lawler Promote SALT Tax Break in New York Visit
President Trump is set to visit Rockland County, New York, to support Rep. Mike Lawler, a Republican facing a competitive re-election campaign. The visit will focus on economic issues, particularly the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, which was increased from $10,000 to $40,000 under Trump's administration. This change is significant for Lawler's constituents, many of whom benefited from the ability to fully deduct their state and local taxes. The event at Rockland Community College marks the first presidential visit to the county in 50 years. Lawler, who has represented the district since 2023, is considered one of the most endangered House Republicans. The district, which President Trump significantly influenced in recent elections, is rated as a 'toss-up' by the Cook Political Report. The visit aims to highlight the economic achievements of Trump's administration and draw contrasts with Democratic policies.
