Los Angeles Homeless Services Agency Relinquishes Key Roles Amid Trump Administration Pressure and Mismanagement Allegations
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) Commission has voted to withdraw from the LA Continuum of Care Board’s request-for-qualifications process, effectively relinquishing its long-held responsibilities for the annual application for federal homelessness funding, the Homeless Management Information System, the annual point-in-time count, and the coordinated-entry system. This decision comes amidst significant pressure from the Trump administration and local officials, who have accused LAHSA of mismanaging taxpayer dollars and lacking transparency. In August, HUD Secretary Scott Turner, alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr., publicly criticized LA's homelessness system. The federal government is also investigating LAHSA's use of federal funds due to allegations of fraud and widespread mismanagement.
