Rescue Efforts in Laos: Five Villagers Found Alive in Flooded Cave, Two Still Missing
In central Laos, five villagers have been found alive after being trapped in a flooded cave for over a week. The group, consisting of seven individuals, entered the cave in Xaisomboun province on May 19, seeking gold despite warnings from authorities about the cave's dangers. Heavy rains caused flash flooding, blocking the exit and trapping the villagers. Rescue teams from Laos and Thailand, including divers who participated in the 2018 Thai cave rescue, are involved in the operation. The challenging terrain and ongoing heavy rain have complicated the rescue efforts. The five survivors are currently receiving food and water, while the search continues for the two missing individuals.
