Five Americans Among Seven Fatalities in Remote Northern Kenya Helicopter Crash
A helicopter carrying tourists on a safari crashed on Wednesday in a remote area of Northern Kenya, resulting in the deaths of all seven people on board. The U.S. State Department confirmed that five of the fatalities were Americans. The helicopter crashed at 9:13 a.m. while en route from the Loisaba Conservancy to the Ewaso Nyiro area in Samburu County. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has initiated an investigation into the incident. Among the deceased were José Alberto Suárez, president and general manager of Telemundo 31, Telemundo 49, and Telemundo Fort Myers-Naples, as confirmed by NBCUniversal. Additionally, Ecuador's intelligence chief, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and his wife were also killed in the crash. The helicopter, a Eurocopter EC130 B4, was operated by Lady Lori Helicopters and was carrying guests from the travel company & Beyond. Search and rescue efforts by the Kenya Red Cross and Tropic Air Kenya were hampered by difficult terrain and an active fire at the crash site.
