Russian Warship Conducts Live-Fire Exercise Near UK Amid New PM's Support for Ukraine
A Russian naval vessel, identified as the 'Neustrashimy,' conducted a live-fire weapons exercise off the British coast on Monday, coinciding with the first day of Prime Minister Andy Burnham's tenure. The exercise took place in international waters approximately 40 nautical miles from Plymouth, England. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Royal Navy monitored the exercise and continues to track the vessel's activity. This event follows increased Russian naval activity near the UK, including a recent interception of a Russian tanker in the English Channel. The exercise has been described by UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting as 'performative and irresponsible.' Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted the timing of the exercise with Burnham's appointment, who has declared unconditional support for Ukraine. The Russian ship had informed the British patrol vessel HMS Tyne of its intentions prior to the exercise.
