Kennedy Center Board Renews Effort to Add President Trump's Name to Building Amidst Controversy
The board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has once again approved a plan to inscribe President Trump's name on the building. This renewed effort comes despite a previous U.S. District Court ruling that deemed the board's unilateral renaming of the center as exceeding its statutory authority. The court, in May, had ordered the removal of President Trump's name, which had been affixed as 'THE DONALD J. TRUMP AND THE JOHN F. KENNEDY MEMORIAL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS.' The new proposal seeks to circumvent this ruling by adding 'Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump' under the main signage. This persistent attempt follows President Trump's earlier takeover of the Kennedy Center, which he justified as necessary to combat 'wokeness' at the institution. This period saw a significant decline in ticket sales, numerous artist cancellations, and a reported drop in donations, leading to financial instability for resident companies.
