Renowned Seagrass Scientist Monica Montefalcone Dies in Diving Accident
Monica Montefalcone, a prominent seagrass scientist, tragically passed away at the age of 51 in a diving accident in the Maldives. Known for her extensive work on Posidonia oceanica, a vital seagrass species in the Mediterranean, Montefalcone was an associate professor of ecology at the University of Genoa. Her research focused on coastal marine ecology, benthic habitats, and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. Montefalcone was also a dedicated educator, coordinating the Marine Landscape Ecology Laboratory at DiSTAV.
