Ukrainian President Zelenskyy Advocates for European Role in Peace Talks Amidst Russian Losses
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has highlighted the shifting dynamics in the ongoing conflict with Russia, noting that since December 2025, Russia has been losing its battlefield initiative. In an interview, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of maintaining pressure on Russia through sanctions and military support from Western allies, particularly the United States. He suggested that there is a window for diplomatic negotiations before the next winter, contingent on continued pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin from both domestic and international fronts. Zelenskyy also discussed potential European involvement in peace negotiations, mentioning the E3 format, which includes the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, as well as the roles of Nordic countries and Türkiye. He stressed that any European role must be mutually agreed upon by Ukraine and Europe, and that Russia must be genuinely ready for dialogue.
